31 Things That Happened During "Gilmore Girls" That Make No Sense Now That I'm Older

When Rory got into her dream school, Harvard, but chose to attend Yale instead.

Better yet, Rory went to Yale for journalism, but they don’t even have a journalism major IRL.

Lorelai and Rory were constantly worried about spending money, yet they ordered take-out and went out to eat all the time.

Warner Bros.

Also, Rory and Lorelai must’ve had massive closets because they rarely repeated outfits.

The WB

Again, I don’t think they could afford the amount of clothing they owned.

The fact that you could walk to Luke’s Diner but had to drive to The Dragonfly Inn.

The entire layout of Stars Hollow just made no sense.

Lorelai and Rory’s lives revolved around television and movies and yet they only had one tiny TV for the longest time.

Warner Bros.

Lorelai even got angry when Christopher wanted to put a flat screen TV above the mantle later on.

Rory had to borrow money from Richard and Emily to afford Yale, but she never once had an on-campus job.

Warner Bros.

She swiped meal cards at Yale for like a day.

When Rory took an entire year off from Yale but still managed to graduate on time like it was no big deal.

Warner Bros.

The layout of Lorelai and Rory’s house made no sense. Like, why was there only one bedroom on the second floor?

Warner Bros.

Rory seemingly never learned from her mistakes. Namely, she was constantly cheating with her ex-boyfriends.

Warner Bros., Netflix

She slept with Dean while he was married, and then in the revival, she slept with Logan even though he was engaged (and she had a boyfriend).

You’re telling me that Jess was the only bad boy in Stars Hollow? Not once did someone else cause trouble?!

Warner Bros.

When Rory got accepted to Chilton two months into the school year instead of at the beginning.

The totally unrealistic size of Rory’s dorm room and the fact that they were able to refurnish it and keep it so clean.

The fact that Paris didn’t get into Harvard but Rory did.

Warner Bros.

Paris did more extracurriculars than Rory and her entire family went there.

When Rory couldn’t find anywhere on Yale’s campus to study except for under a tree.

Warner Bros.

The fact that Zack, Lane, and Brian could afford a massive apartment when they made so little money.

Warner Bros.

There was enough room for bunk beds and a full drum set in the living room.

Michel was a terrible employee that never did his job without complaining, and yet Sookie and Lorelai kept him around.

Warner Bros.

Even better, in the revival when Michel announced he was leaving, Lorelai acted like it was the end of the world.

The Dragonfly Inn notoriously had money problems, but they bought all of this food for approximately 10 to 15 guests.

Warner Bros., Netflix

Rory was basically failing out of Chilton when she first started, so how did she end up beating Paris to be Valedictorian?!

Warner Bros.

I’m still confused about how Jess managed to completely demolish Rory’s car when he swerved to avoid a small animal.

Warner Bros.

Especially because when Rory got hit by a deer earlier in the series, the car suffered only a minor dent.

Even though Stars Hollow was in Connecticut, every time it snowed was a really big deal.

Warner Bros., Netflix

It also seemed to snow only like twice a year.

When Rory went to visit Jess in NYC the same day as Lorelai’s graduation and didn’t realize that she might not make it back in time.

Warner Bros., Google Maps

Hartford, CT, where Chilton is located, is a solid two and a half hours by car from NYC. So did Rory really think taking a local bus would get her back in time to not miss Lorelai’s graduation?

Rory’s commute to Chilton was at least an hour, but she still managed to enjoy breakfast at Luke’s Diner almost every morning.

Warner Bros.

Lorelai broke off multiple engagements and no one really seemed to care.

Warner Bros.

When Paris announced she wanted to become a doctor after she spent all of high school and college interested in journalism.

Warner Bros.

The fact that Mr. Kim wasn’t seen until the revival, but we were supposed to believe he was always around.

Throughout the original series, Lane constantly referred to her “parents,” plural.

Why did dinner with Emily and Richard have to be on Friday? If something came up, why not move it to another night?

Warner Bros.

The fact that Kirk worked multiple jobs in Stars Hollow and could just not show up to some of them whenever he felt like it.

Warner Bros.

When the entire town made such a big deal about Rory and other college graduates coming back to live at home.

This is literally what I am doing right now…

When Rory let the Life and Death Brigade essentially kidnap her and she wasn’t the least bit concerned.

Warner Bros.

And finally, Rory’s entire storyline in the revival.

She cheated on her boyfriend, screwed up a job interview because she thought she deserved a better role, and was a terrible journalist who only wanted to make herself look good. *Sigh*
